Episode 10 Recap: Mhysa
Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 10, Mhysa, opens up with a view of the icy relationship that has developed between Tyrion and Sansa. Tyrion learns about the death of Robb and Catelyn at the Red Wedding. King Joffrey orders that Robb’s head be brought to King’s Landing. He plans to give it to Sansa as a gift, and this makes Tyrion angry and he threatens Joffrey. Tywin gets angry, and he orders that Joffrey be taken to his room immediately and sedated. Tywin then discusses with Tyrion the appointment of Roose Bolton as the warden of the North which will be until the son of Sansa and Tyrion comes of age. Tywin urges Tyrion to impregnate Sansa, which would be difficult as Tyrion has promised not to touch Sansa unless she is willing.
Elsewhere in the palace, Lord Varys and Shae are discussing Tyrion’s marriage to Sansa and the effect it will have on Shae, as well as the eastern heritage they share. Varys then gives Shae a bag of diamond so that she can go for Essos to make a new life for herself which will free Tyrion from danger and allow him to concentrate on improving the capital. Shae refuses the offer because she believes that Tyrion has sent Varys with the offer. Later that night, Queen Cersei pays a visit to Tyrion and tells him he should give Sansa a child as it will make her happy. Cersei believes that a child would give Sansa something to focus on other than her misery.
Shortly after their king was murdered, the loyal Stark bannermen fight and lose a battle with the Freys. The Hound and Arya shockingly witness Robb’s decapitated corpse being paraded by Frey soldiers at the entrance. The head of Grey Wind, Robb’s wolf, is attached to his corpse. Later in Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 10, when the two come across four Frey men discussing the Stark’s murder, Arya brutally kills one of them who was claiming to have defiled Robs body. Before any of his allies can help, the Hound kills all of them.
In the dungeons of Dragonstone, Gendry gets a visit from Davos, who tries to relate to him by giving him the story of how he became a Lord. Afterwards, when they hear the bells ring, Davos goes to meet Stannis and Melisandre. Stannis informs Davos about Robs death, and he attributes it to Melisandre’s rituals of burning the leeches. Melisandre plans to burn and sacrifice Gendry to the Lord of Light. Even though Davos tries to plead with Stannis to spare the life of Gendry, Stannis is adamant that he should be sacrificed. During the night, Davos frees Gendry giving him a boat so that he can escape Dragonstone.
Outside Yunkai, Daenerys and her army are ready to free the slaves of the city. On their arrival, Missandei informs them that Daenerys has freed them, but Daenerys tells them that only they can take their freedom back. The crowd is ecstatic and begins to chant ‘mhysa’ which is Ghiscari for ‘mother.’
