Episode 8 Recap: The Pointy End
Episode 8 of Game of Trones is titled “The Pointy End” and kicks off with Lannister purging the Stark household from King Landing with only what can be described as extreme malevolence. This recap of episode 8 will take you through all of the mayhem. Imagine hanging out with your pals, drinking some coffee and out of nowhere a bunch of sword-wielding barbarians jump into the coffee store and start hacking everyone to death. That is the exact experience we get from the opening chaotic scene of the Episode 8 of the first season of the Game of Thrones.
For a show that might at times seem discombobulated with different storylines unfolding everywhere, “The Pointy End” episode is one of the most cohesive episodes in the first season Game of Thrones. Episode 8 of Game of Thrones aired on June 5th, 2011 and featured more than sword fights. There were zombies, direwolf attacks and full-frontal Hodor. To boot, the entire realm hadn’t recovered from Ned’s arrest to start with.
At the King’s Landing, we meet Sansa strolling with her Septa when they are startled by the sound of fighting and dying further down. In retrospect, her Septa should have held back Sansa, and led her in a different direction after all the abuse she goes through. But this is a recap, so we will stick to what happened in the first season of the games of thrones. Instead, the Septa warns Sansa in the gentlest way to run away, and then proceeds to walk towards the large soldiers. We never see what happens next, but since later on we are informed all of Starks’ soldiers, we can safely assume she did not make it. The Hound captures Sansa, and she plays the hopeless “I’ll tell my father” card. The Hound reacts by putting on a face that wants to murder, mutilate and eat Sansa, and not necessarily in that order.
Arya in Episode 8 of Game of Thrones is doing quite well in her dancing /swordplay lessons, but she is rudely interrupted by Lannister guardsmen. Syrio Forel gets a chance to show why for nine years he was the First Sword of Braavos by performing a Multi-Mook Melee and beating all of the Lannister guards.
To make the recap and episode 8 more interesting, we catch up with the Night’s Watch, who successfully tracked down the corpses linked with the hand Ghost found from the previous episode. Near the end of Episode 8, we meet Tyrion, who has some travelling to do, with the mountain clan attached to him like stray puppies. They reward him with a ragged tail when he gets to his father’s camp.
A lot happens in between the plot summary captured above, so make a point of watching the first season of Game of Thrones, especially ‘The Pointy End’.
